Artist's Statement:

Whenever I wrap up a semester of teaching, I look around the room and see how bright the room is-- that each of these students carries the fire of their spirit, hopefully re-lit over our time together.

In this world, many, many things are set out to dampen our spirits and to put out our fire - apathy, cynicism, disbelief - and it can be so hard to keep that fire burning. I love this quote because it calls us to go into the world and light others up, so that our world can burn bright.
