About Cocoon House
Chen Chen was born and raised in China. After earning her doctorate at the U of M, Chen started Cocoon House, a small business focused on designing, importing and wholesaling women's silk clothing. Cocoon House, located in St. Paul, MN, has sales representatives around the country and sells to retailers and catalog companies nationwide. Cocoon House puts great emphasis on quality. Chen works personally with artists here and in China to develop distinctive, beautiful designs that are digitally printed on fine silk. She partners with factory co-ops that provide good working conditions and fair wages for their workers.
Cocoon House also puts great emphasis on service. Chen works closely with her employees to ensure customer orders are fulfilled quickly and efficiently. The close relationships Chen has with factory co-ops allow Cocoon House to be extremely nimble in quickly bringing new designs into production. New products are often ready to ship to customers from their St. Paul warehouse within two weeks of design finalization.
Chen received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Education and Human Development in 2015.
